5 ALTERNATIVES TO TRAVELING DURING THE SUMMER.

I’ve loved water for as long as I can remember. Actually, I’ve loved the ocean for as long as I can remember. As the sun sets and the waves come crashing in, I am reminded that God is good and all things he created are good. I spend my beach days sun-bathing and catching up on good reads.

It appears that hot girl summer 2020 is undeniably cancelled. Although the travel bans have been lifted around the world, COVID-19 travel advisories remain. I can’t imagine planning an international girls’ trip and having the time of my life this summer. Catching flights isn’t a considerate safety option.

What to do then? Here’s 5 ways I intend to live my best life this summer;

1. Sunbath on a beach. Imagine renting the perfect beach house with your girlfriends and catching the early rays of sunlight over the ocean. It is the perfect escapism from the harshness of reality. My favorite place in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia is Assateague Island. The island is known for their wild ponies wandering around the beach. Other beaches in the area include;

  • Bethany Beach, Maryland

  • Cape May, New Jersey

  • Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

  • Sandy Point, Maryland

  • Lewes, Delaware

2. Reconnect with nature on a glamorous camping trip. I remember camping in Venice, Italy 4 years ago. Absolutely not the city to go camping in, but traveling on a budget can be rough for a young girl. Camping however gives you an appreciation for the simpler things in life. The Getaway House offers a simple escape to tiny cabins nestled in nature. They have an outpost in Washington D.C., Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles and a few others. It’s so important to take a few days to unplug from the hassle and bustle and focus on one another.

3. Roadtrip through your favorite cities. In 2016, I road tripped from Arizona to Los Angeles with my bestie. Those were the best 6 days of our lives. We drove through Utah and Las Vegas; sight-seeing, bonding and relaxing. Get some friends together, pin point a few cities, rent a car, and drive. These are the memories you’d want to recall about your twenties!

4. Embark on a hiking adventure. Trekking may not be at the top of the list for glamorous escapism but it is definitely worth every second. Longer trails make for the best adventures and bonding experiences with friends. Find a trail that could take up to a day or two to explore, and head out. Here are some of my favorite trails in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia area;

5. Rent a summer lake house for the weekend. Are you into water sports? If yes, this is the perfect adventure for a summer getaway. If no, this is equally the time to try something new. Jet skiing, tubing and white water rafting are all sports you can enjoy during your stay. Taking a few days to disconnect and get your hair wet is a must. In 2019, I rented a house in Deep Creek Maryland, so I’d recommend that area.

I am hoping 1 of these 5 activities is on your list this summer. If you love the idea of picnicking, check out my 5 Essentials to planning the perfect summer picnic. Feel free to share some other ideas with me, as I am looking to beef up my summer adventures.
